David Reynolds prepares for the Top-10 Shootout The 2023 Repco Supercars Championship commenced the year with the Thrifty Newcastle 500 on March 11 and 12.

It was the first round of the new Gen3 Supercars comprising 14 Chevrolet Camaros and 11 Ford Mustangs.

The Saturday Top Ten Shootout was won by Brodie Kostecki in the Coca-Cola Camaro. He was joined on the front row by the Ford Mustang of Cam Waters.

The 250km race was won by the Red Bull Chevrolet driven by  Shane van Gisbergen followed by Broc Feeney from the same team. Both of these drivers were later disqualified because of a technical breach of the rules in the location of the driver cooling system. This gave the race win to Cam Waters followed by Chaz Mostert in the Walkinshaw Andretti United Ford Mustang. This was the first time in 33 years the Walkinshaw team had not driven a Holden. Third was Brodie Kostecki.

The Sunday Top Ten Shootout was won by David Reynolds in the Penrite Racing Mustang. He was joined on the front row by the Ford Mustang of Chaz Mostert.

The 250km race was won by the Red Bull Chevrolet driven by  Shane van Gisbergen followed by Chaz  Mostert and David Reynolds in third.
